US ambassador visits Urk and speaks to fishing industry about trade relations

Urk recently received a visit from the U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, Joe Popolo. During his working visit, he was introduced to Urk’s fish processing sector and the important role it plays in the international seafood chain.

The visit came about with the involvement of various parties from the sector, with Urk Seafood being one of the initiators in organizing the program. During the visit, representatives of the American delegation were given an insight into the strength of the Urk Seafood cluster and Urk’s position as an important center for fish processing in Europe.

The visit also included Rein Brands, who heads the Urk Seafood cluster. He explained Urk’s role as an international hub in fish processing and the cooperation between the various companies within the cluster.

Discussions included international trade and the processing of fish species such as Alaska pollock. The ambassador expressed his appreciation for the sector’s strong international orientation and expressed his commitment to further strengthening trade relations between the United States and the Netherlands.

For Urk Seafood, this visit underscores the international nature of the Urk seafood industry and the importance of strong trade relations with key markets such as the United States.
