Urk seafood industry supports Coordination Platform Missing with auction of first May plaice

During the annual auction of the first box of May plaice, the Urk seafood industry once again demonstrated its social commitment. In a well-filled mining hall of the fish auction, a sum of no less than 95,000 euros was raised for the Coordination Platform for Missing Persons (CPV) under the direction of auctioneer Gilbert Bastiaanssen.

The first case of May sole was offered by the UK 158 and auctioned in cooperation with the Insula Group Urk. Following tradition, the auction took place in the American manner, with all bidders contributing to the final proceeds.

In the closing stages, an exciting bidding battle ensued between our member Sea Fresh and our member Dayseaday. In the end, Dayseaday was able to make the winning bid and thus receive the first case of May sole.

This year’s proceeds will go to the Missing Persons Coordination Platform, an organization that has provided support in searches for missing persons for many years. With the proceeds, the platform plans to invest in a new home for storage, equipment and training.

The annual auction of the first crate of May plaice has now become a tradition in which the Urk fishing industry not only shows its commitment to fishing, but also its involvement in social initiatives and charities.
