On LinkedIn, the Municipality of Urk shared a favorable report on the working visit by the Economic Affairs and Port of Urk teams of the Municipality of Urk.
Tjeerd Hoekstra, Wouter de Vries and Meindert Jan de Boer took us through the history of Lerøy Seafood Netherlands in a fascinating company presentation. Founded in 1988 under the name Rodé Vis, this company pioneered the processing and smoking of Norwegian farmed salmon. Since then, Rodé Vis has become an international salmon manufacturer. In 2012, Rodé Vis became part of the Lerøy Seafood Group. This company is represented in 14 countries and produces 5 million meals daily.
In 2016, Rodé Vis completely came under the management of the Lerøy Seafood Group, and in 2022 the transition was complete with the name change to Lerøy Seafood Netherlands.
And now a production and packaging plant with 11,000 m2 of production space, 2,700 solar panels and which is also energy neutral has been in Urk since 2018. Employment offers a total of 450 employees and specializes in fresh, smoked and cooked Norwegian salmon. Truly a state of the art factory.
Understanding the factory process and the way Lerøy Seafood Group operates has given the two teams much clarity on the need demand of companies on Urk in the future.
