In its ongoing transition to more sustainable operations, Urk Seafood participant Lerøy Seafood is showing itself to be a forerunner within the seafood industry. Under the motto “Green is the new blue,” the company is actively focusing on reducing its carbon footprint, both in production and distribution.
One of the most visible initiatives is the installation of as many as 3,000 solar panels, strategically placed across Lerøy Seafood’s five sites. These solar installations represent an important step in the company’s commitment to an energy-efficient operation, with a significant portion of its electricity needs now met by renewable sources. This project aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions and contributing to the energy transition in the fishing industry.
Lerøy also invests in sustainable transportation, as evidenced by the recent addition of an all-electric Mercedes eCitan to their fleet. This electric commercial vehicle is used for daily logistics. Electric driving is an important part of Lerøy’s strategy to make their transport processes more sustainable and deliver fresh fish to customers with minimal environmental impact.
With these green initiatives, Lerøy Seafood underlines its ambition to play a leading role in making the fishing industry more sustainable. By investing in clean energy and environmentally friendly transport solutions, the company is taking important steps toward a greener future.
