Expansion and growth at Live Seafood

Urk Seafood participant, Live Seafood, a specialist in live seafood on Urk, has recently significantly increased its processing and storage capacity with a new building on the Doove Balg. Due to continued growth, this step was necessary. The first few weeks have now gone well, with the existing live crustacean tanks having been relocated and crab processing already in full swing.

Live Seafood began trading in North Sea crab caught by UK 146 eight years ago, but soon expanded to include other live crustaceans. The new premises had to meet HACCP requirements and NVWA’s EC approval. Koelcellenbouw Nederland helped with the construction of refrigerated rooms, allowing processing to take place at a constant low temperature, with enough space inside and outside for storage.

Logistics are now running at full speed. Early every morning they start packing the North Sea crab, much of which is exported to Asia. Thanks to a direct supply from two English fishing vessels, Live Seafood can guarantee top quality all year round. The volume of North Sea crab has doubled since last year: the company expects to go towards 700,000 to 1 million kilos this year.

With the arrival of an additional, larger live tank, the company will soon also be ready to process lobster and king crab on a larger scale, further expanding its capacity and capabilities.
